Potholing Using NDD
Potholing exposes underground services to verify their location. The benefit of potholing is that it is cheaper to redesign than it is to relocate. Potholing Process
> Jackhammer through the road surface to expose crushed rock. (The Non Destructive Digging has its own air supply meaning the truck is totally self sufficient to tackle any project)
> Use the air lance to potholes then vacuum debris and store in tank. The debris remains dry so it can be used to backfill. The pothole need only be 150mm in diameter minimizing the damage to the road surface.
> Pothole down to the asset, exposing it to confirm it is the required service. If other services are located in the pothole continue to pothole until the target service is located.
> Measure the depth of the pothole and record information. If services are not located where "Dial Before You Dig" plans state they are, additional install may be required.
> Backfill the pothole, compact and reseal the road surface. Non Destructive Digging produces minimal impact on the streetscape, with no soil entering the stormwater system. Reuse of soil ensures there can be no introduction of material from outside regions.
