Barry Bros. has
been confirmed as a finalist for the 2004 Banksia environmental
awards in Category 8 - Environmental Leadership in Infrastructure & Services,
to be presented by the Banksia Environmental Foundation on 5 June,
World Environment Day at The Pavilion, Royal Randwick Racecourse.
Barry Bros. has
set up and operates a water recycling plant at J L Murphy reserve
in Port Melbourne. In conjunction with the City of Port Phillip,
Telstra and Citipower the plant was set up to process water from
telecommunication and electrical power pits that was previously
directed to prescribed waste treatment facilities.
The recycled
water is used to irrigate the ovals at the reserve with over
3 million litres being processed by the end of December 2003.
Based
on technology developed by Barry Bros. and using technical skills
and vacuum collection technology a commercially viable operation
was developed.
