About The Team
Heath Keenan talks about this years cycling season for the Barry Bros sponsored cycling team... May is the beginning of the road cycling season and we are lucky enough to be a part of it along with our new major sponsor Barry Bros. Specialised Services, Whitehorse Truck Centre, H.B.Auto Electricial, Hourigan Truck Repairs and Bikepro. The team consists of the following riders:
Trent Stevenson (Shepparton)
Ashley Baines (Wangaratta)
Peter Ladd (Bendigo)
Heath Keenan (Melbourne)
May is the month to see how much others have been training. Pre season – to get ready for the season the riders complete 500-700km a week of generally easy riding 28-35km per hour then during the season about 400-600km per week and racing with more specific efforts like VO2 max tests, ergo tests (which is an indoor training simulator used to do continous efforts) To start I would like to give everyone an insight into Bike racing not always those annoying people dressed in silly looking lycra annoying motor vehicles in congested traffic. There are 2 types of racing, scratch racing where everyone starts together in different grades depending on level of ability and handicap racing where there is time gaps to differentiate between levels of ability but all covering the same course. The fastest riders start last in handicaps and A grade in scratch races. Trent and Ashley are both Scratch riders and Heath and Peter ride off 2nd scratch but are all in the A grade level.
